The term ‘binge watching’ is the practice of watching television for longer time spans than usual, and it has become very popular within the teenage population. With the ability of being able to stream and watch whatever one wants, wherever, and whenever, many people now prefer internet streaming to basic cable.

“Over the summer, I watched one tree hill every single day for hours on end and I finished all 9 seasons within 2 months,” senior Olivia Maanao said.

Majority of teenagers have access to services like Netflix and Hulu because of the reasonable pricing that their parents can afford. According to studlife.com, it is becoming more affordable to purchase internet service at ($44.99 at Time Warner Cable) and then purchase access to streaming companies like Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime(with cost between $7.99 and $11.99 per month) compared to cable which is over $100 per month.

“When were little we never had cable because my mom thought it wasn’t educational and we didn’t need it. Now, we have Netflix and Amazon Prime,” sophomore Emma Milbert said.

Streaming is also incredibly convenient. Now, instead of waiting three months to watch a season of a TV show, you can consume it within a matter of hours. The flexibility within these services adheres quite nicely to busy schedules.

“I like the fact that I can download shows whenever I want, so when I’m traveling I can watch whatever I want,” sophomore Samantha Nevins said.

Overall, streaming is convenient, cheap and can fit quite nicely with any type of schedules. Streaming is redefining the way we watch TV.
