“I grew up around construction and along with 10 years’ experience inside the field is what inspired me to become a carpenter teacher. I’ve been teaching at Astronaut for 7 years now and I enjoy watching my students learn stuff that they’ll use for the rest of their lives. I strongly encourage students to join the CTE field it’s all about hands on experiences and the skills that are learned to can them to a future career,” Mr. Dunlap said.

“I’ve been in this class for 1 semester now and I decide to join the class because I like to build things. I’m not very good at hammering things but I’m hopeful that at the end of this class I’ll become an expert in it the same way I have in working with the different types of saws. I think people should join this class because the skills you learn you can transfer to your everyday life. For example I just recently built my dog a dog house using some of the techniques learned in this class,” sophomore Joshua Lugo said.

“I want to have a career in the field of construction and this class helps me by teaching me how to use power tools and the different types of saws. This class not only teaches me how to fix things, it has also taught me advanced math by having to make precise cuts and holes. I would strongly encourage others to join even if they don’t want a career in construction because it’s important to know how to fix things for yourself,” sophomore Logan Bowers said.

“I like to work with my hands and even though I know most of the stuff about construction this class has still taught me things such as how to work a power saw. Construction is a class that is very beneficial and hands on, so anyone who’s a very hands on should consider taking this course. Along with the hands on experience this class also teaches you have to make simple quick fixes,” freshman Thomas Owen said.

“I’ve been in construction for 1 year now and I don’t plan on going into the field but I do feel it’s an important class because it teaches you basic building skills that can prove valuable later in life. And if I was to fall upon hard times I would have the skills to do construction work. Other than the tools and information the class teaches you people should also join just for the fact that the class is fun to be in,” sophomore Dominick Robinson said.

“I have a passion to build things so I joined construction and it’s going to help me in the future because I’ll have to skills and know everything that I need to about construction work. The skills I’ve learned in this class have already paid off like when I help my dad build stuff. Kids should really join this class especially if they want a career in construction,” freshman Robert Pierre said.

“I want to build houses for people once I get out of high school so this construction class will really pay benefit to me. This class teaches you about using power saws and hammering and all the different types of cuts. It has really proved beneficial because I now know how to build things on my own,” freshman Nugene Scarbro said.
